Hello, it's me again.

sstanley02

If you aren’t political, you haven’t missed me. If you are, then you probably haven’t needed any more political talk than you have already heard. Like me, you’ve been absorbing wave after wave of information from books written by insiders of the Trump Whitehouse.

In July, we had Mary Trump’s book on the Trump family and how Donald became Donald. Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man revealed how the abusive patriarch wanted a son that was a “killer” that never apologized or admitted error, and got one. Wow.

Then Melania and Me by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff came along. Yet another well-meaning person chewed up and spit out by the Trump Whitehouse. We find out that there is no reason to feel sorry for Melania in her marriage. She is a Trump through and through. Who knew?

Then Disloyal: a Memoir, by Michael Cohen debuts at #1. No holds barred, the disbarred lawyer tells us Trump is a cult leader, and acts like a mob boss. Boom!

Interesting, Cohen comes off like a pretty nice guy in Melania and Me, trying to draft a memo to defend Wolkoff against the lies told by the West Wing. He seemed pretty honest on the various interviews he gave, as well. No wonder he calls Trump a cult leader; he seems to have been led down a very bad road by his association with Trump.

Then, most recently released, Rage, by the irreplaceable Bob Woodward. Kapow! BOOM!

How did I not know what a powerhouse Woodward was? After all, I became an adult during the last national crisis, and Woodward and Bernstein led us through it with their reporting on Watergate.

Tonight, Bob Woodward appeared on MSNBC’s THE LAST WORD, with Lawrence O’Donnell, and said “…Understanding the Trump voter is essential,” and speaking to news professionals, “not to pander to the Trump voter - or the Biden voter. [We] “should be in the business of understanding people.” He feels you have to really listen, ask follow up questions, and try to understand, then say, okay, you can look at the situation very differently.

This inspired me to do as Woodward recommended: to understand the Trump voter. What I write in the next few posts won’t be new ideas or facts, but will instead synthesize my thoughts and what I’ve been able to glean from various articles over the last days.

I will explore a question that has haunted many a horrified American. The one that goes, “I know you are conservative, but how can you vote for that man?"
